In the latest Top 100 Wines of Austria 2018 by James Suckling our Ried Steinberg 1. ÖTW Lage Riesling 2017 achieved a first-class result with 93 points and reached 69th place.
James Suckling was former editor-in-chief of the Wine Spectator and is today one of the most renowned wine critics in the world. He runs his own internet tasting portal JamesSuckling.com. The Austrian and German wines are evaluated by Stuart Pigott, wine columnist of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, and also by an experienced wine critic. Up to 100 points are awarded. Wines with more than 90 points are “outstanding (A)”, i.e. excellent and exceptional.
Exciting first vineyards Riesling
Our Riesling from biodynamic cultivation is shown as an exciting wine, the … but this one is still really closed with only some smoke and licorice currently showing. Tons of minerality on the palate, but this also makes the wine ather austere, particularly on the finish….
2017 is the first vintage to be classified as Erste Lage Ried Steinberg in Grinzing of the traditional Viennese wineries. The vineyard owes its name to a nearby quarry. Historically, the vineyard was first recorded in 1340. The Viennese sandstone zone forms the subsoil of the vineyard and on the surface the numerous marine deposits have a high lime content.
